Our Favorite Denver Broncos Fan Meets Bo Nix

Updated: Apr 26

Allow me to introduce myself, my name is Maria Brooks, and I’m currently a nine-time consecutive NFL Fan of the Year nominee.  There’s a good chance that I’m the biggest Denver Broncos fan in the CWBA.

I got a chance to meet Bo Nix last month for an exclusive autograph signing event at ENT Credit Union in Colorado Springs and wanted to share all the fun with you.

It was 4:30 a.m. when I left the house that morning.  I arrived at the bank at 5:30 a.m. and it was 3°.  I was the third car to arrive.  We all sat in our cars until around 8:00 a.m. then started lining up.  By then, it was 6° and about twenty cars total.  By 10:00 a.m., it was 11° and approximately 200 people were in line.  An hour later at 11:00 a.m. the cheerleaders, Miles the mascot, and alumni Rod Smith showed up.  There was music with donuts and cookies, yay!

At 11:30 a.m. they started letting us in, ten people at a time.  His handler approached each person and asked what item was brought for an autograph.  When he got to me, he asked my name.  I asked why he needed that -- was he going to introduce me by my first name when it was my turn?  I was told this would be the name he would write on my item.  The reasoning behind this is that the event organizer wants to avoid the possibility of a fan getting an autograph, then turning around and selling it.  So I told the handler my name was “The Most Beautiful Woman in the World.”  He stared at me with a prickly look.  Then I realized Mr. Nix is married and that might offend his wife, Izzy.  I said, “Oh, excuse me, I mean, The Second Most Beautiful Woman in the World.”  He was not impressed, didn’t even crack a smile.  Told me to please just tell him my name, so I did.  A few seconds later, I’m face to face with the starting quarterback of the Denver Broncos, WOW!  He’s so handsome!!!

He signed my jersey and said thank you.  I told him, “No, no, thank YOU for getting us to the playoffs for the first time in a decade”, and then I was told to step aside for the next person.   Six hours of waiting in the FREEZING COLD for 48 seconds with Mr. Nix.  WORTH IT!!!!

Here’s a local Colorado Springs news story about the event that aired on TV later that night.  Watch closely and you’ll see me for a few seconds at the beginning.

THANK YOU to my boss for giving me the day off to live my best orange and blue life 😊 GO BRONCOS!
